I just finished giving the floral treatment to this simple canvas tote.
It's been nice to have a "project" that's so contained. All I wanted was to cover up a screen printed design (on which I was none too keen), so I used up some faux flowers leftover from another project.
Before I even began, there was an end in sight. The bigger pieces (my ARTRAVE jacket, the shorts that keep going and going, etc.) are my favorite – and by far the most satisfying – projects to work on for me right now, but there's something encouraging about making something I can use right away. And it's got me thinking about the kinds of things I could be making for others, people who may be interested in my aesthetic and work, but who may not be ready or willing to wear booty shorts that look like they grew in a garden adjacent to Ariel's secret grotto.
I know everyone who has heard of global warming already owns too many tote bags to count. Here's what I'm thinking: You send me a tote you've already got. Maybe you've fallen out of love with the design, maybe it's got a hole that needs patching, whatever. Send it to me, tell me 2-3 of your favorite colors, and I'll spruce up that sad old bag nice 'n pretty for ya (and patch those holes if there are some). Send me an e-mail or get in touch via Facebook if you're interested. Let's all trot our groceries around in style!
