I read about Moko on i-D a few months back, and have been smitten ever since.
That VOICE! The HAIR! Those DANCE moves! SHIT, GIRL!
And how it all comes together in this shimmering 90s non-nostalgia that shoots me straight back to the dance studio of my youth. I'd sit outside the classrooms where the "big girls" had their jazz and "street funk" classes, and I'd gawk in awe at their confidence, their talent, their bodies bouncing off of these songs that felt like an anthem for the kind of life I certainly didn't have at 8 years old but knew that one day I'd want. Songs for dancing, sung by women with these big big voices, voices you could hear a strut in.
Tpday, I may be dancing at my desk, but I'm doing it with bucket loads of attitude and joy. Thanks, Moko!
